Courage that Counts was inspired by a man on my mother’s fire department named Roy who was diagnosed with cancer and passed away. The title is from bracelets that they sold to earn money for the family that say courage that counts 24-7-365. I remember what he went through and how the department stepped up to support him. Especially two of his closest friends Dan and Jason. At the funeral they gave a speech to Roy’s wife and two daughters letting them know the department will always be their family and if they ever need anything they are all there for them.
It was this experience and the feeling of being part of such a tight knit fire department family that made this book possible. The book is not Roy’s actual story it is just inspired by him and the love he had for his family, friends, and community. As well as the love they all showed him.
This is Dan and Roy.
